Unsettling Times

Stepping away from game discussion to briefly talk about the election. I wouldn’t say anything if I wasn’t very worried, as a physician and citizen. Our country is in danger, and those in charge are turning a blind eye to the COVID-19 pandemic while millions suffer and hundreds of thousands have died. The only thing that has been worse than the pandemic itself is the ineptitude of Trump and the White House Administration, along with much of the federal government. The negative rhetoric has worsened in recent weeks, as the silent lies are now being said out loud online and at rallies, including:

  • Physicians and health care workers are making false claims about COVID-19 numbers for their own financial gain.
  • Dr. Fauci is wrong and should be fired.
  • The pandemic isn’t real.
  • We are turning a corner in the pandemic.
  • Masks and social distancing are too restrictive and do not work.

Trump and his administration are doing what they can to discredit those that are actually helping for his own selfish reasons. None of these statements I shared above are true, and it is disheartening to hear him spread these lies over and over again to his supporters. Physicians, NPs, PAs, nurses, CMAs, social workers, and every other person involved in health care are working tireless to provide families across the nation with as much support and care as possible, at the risk of their own lives. Rather than lay into Trump, his administration, and the lies being told, I will leave you with just a simple plea.

Trust your health care providers.

The American Medical Association released a statement a few weeks ago about COVID-19 to advocate for health care professionals, which I have posted below.

Link to AMA statement on twitter

We, as health care providers, are exhausted and tired. We shouldn’t have to battle a pandemic AND the White House. But we will continue fighting. We will always be here to help you. We will not give up on you though the current White House has become more apathetic to our dire situation and your family’s needs. We will not let your loved ones suffer and die in vain. Even if Trump remains in office, we will continue to fight for you. One helpful step though, would be booting him from office and starting fresh.

Good luck, stay safe tomorrow if you haven’t voted already.

Vote for Biden. Or, if you do not like him either, at least do not vote for Trump.
