Rating this game is fairly simple, especially with those of us who have played and loved these 3 games over the last 20+ years. These games are all incredible, and are becoming classics arguably on the same level as the original Super Mario Brothers. And it’s saying something that Sunshine is considered the “worst” of these three. It’s like comparing Michael Jordan to Scottie Pippen. Yes, arguably one is better than the other, but they’re both on the same team so who cares!

Not a-number one, but still pretty good

I don’t think much needs to be said of the content of these 3 games. All revolve around the world’s most beloved plumber and his never-ending quest to protect his princess and collect all the stars and suns that keep going missing for some reason. Each game brings its own unique technique, such as point-and-shoot stars or a water cannon, while still preserving the Mario gameplay that is the core of this series.

The games themselves are a straight port from the originals, with the only changes being controller related since these are now on the Switch. Mario 64 is still the blocky adventure it started as, which to those that grew up with it won’t matter. To newcomers, this may be hard to look past. Especially the wonky camera positioning that can make the game difficult at times. But really, that’s only downside to this three pack. It’s time to relive our childhood and introduce our children to these classics! With all 3 games though, it is easy for young children to adults to learn quickly and enjoy for hours on end.

Never ending fun!

Overall rating: 4.5/5

Positives: 3 timeless classics all packed into a portable device. Easy for anyone to start to play, but challenging enough to keep you going for days on end.

Negatives: Aside from the soundtracks to the games themselves, literally nothing new has been added. This can be a problem when comparing it to other remakes and re-releases.

Child friendliness: 5/5

Aside from some very mild cartoon violence, everything is very family friendly. Playing this together and helping kids get through some of the tougher levels can make for great bonding.
